On the ghost whisperer when jim got shot and went into someone elses body,how did he get back to normal?

on the ghost whisperer when jim (melindas husband) got shot and died he possesed a dead body or something and for awhile he was someone else and for some reason i missed the other episodes and i saw the last episode and obviously he was back to normal but idk why
